We all know that life has its ups and downs.  We’ve all been through some tough times along the way.  When that happens, sometimes we have to let go of some things that have had value to us.  What’s really sad is when things get tough enough that we can no longer afford the cost of keeping a canine family member.

That’s what’s happened in this case.  Gracie’s family had experienced loss of employment, and things had declined to where they made the heart-wrenching decision to surrender their beloved Dober.  Their one consolation was in knowing she’d be placed in another excellent home and that while they’d be missing her, she’d be loved and well cared for.

As for Gracie, she’s understandably a bit bewildered at the change of circumstances, but she has a delightful personality and is adjusting to the new setting as she awaits a permanent home.

She’s a pretty girl - a bit overweight but with a beautiful shiny coat.  She loves to carry her stuffed toy around and to play chase.  Sometimes she even will take a mouthful of food and run to her bed and wait until her owners are watching before she will eat it!  When it’s time for bed, she loves to be covered with a blanket.

Volunteer comments:
“Gracie has a playful spirit and likes to carry her toys around and let you know she has it and you don't!  Some dogs like to bring toys back so you can throw them again, and others like to prance around and show off their prize.  Gracie is definitely the latter!  She’s a very easygoing dog with a gentle nature.  She appears to be low-maintenance and will be the type that stays right by your side for the next ten years.”

“She loves attention all the time and is a little wiggle butt!  She’s good PR for Dobermans; everyone she meets is like a long-lost friend.  (And she’s good on a leash.)”

“Graceland, otherwise known as “Little Miss Happy.”  She is overjoyed just to see you walk up to her gate.  She’s smart and I suspect has some obedience training, as she would sit on command for me.”

“This sweet girl’s tail wags constantly.  She loves stuffed toys, a nice shade tree when it’s sunny, and walks on the beach. (Well not sure about that last one – we don’t have a beach!)"

"During my brief contact with Gracie I got the impression that she is a sweetie who is eager to have someone pet her and rub her ears. She jumped up on the gate to let me pet her as she was wagging her tail."

"Gracie is very sweet. She has to have a paw touching me when I pet her."

And a family friend adds these comments:

“If you pat your leg and say “Come,” she’ll come sit beside you.  If you hold up one finger, she’ll sit.  When she’s sitting, you can make a downward motion with your hand, and she’ll lie down.  At the door, she’ll stay on command rather than dashing out.  For play outside, she loves it when you tell her you’re going to get her and pretend to chase her around.”

Clearly this is a lovely family dog with a good spirit and gentle nature who just longs to be with a family again.  If you think yours may be a fit, make an appointment to see her once your application is approved.  But don’t delay, you know how everybody loves to go to Graceland.
