This handsome “calendar” Dobie has been through a couple of changes in his young life.  Apparently in his first home, his owners hadn’t considered the amount of time and energy required to raise a dog from a pup.  As a result, he spent a great deal of time crated, with the end result being that after a little more than a year they passed him along to the next owner, who already had a Doberman and hoped to provide a better home for him than his first.

Unfortunately, both dogs were males, and the older, original Dober in the house apparently determined the younger, newer family member was not going to accepted.  He constantly started fights with the new Dober, who understandably and fairly enough wouldn’t be taken advantage of.  The resulting impasse and constant battles had no solution other than to see the new member of the household left the house due to no fault of his own.  And so he has come to us to await a home and family where he is properly nurtured and where another male isn’t trying to dominate him all the time.

His surrendering owner suggested he was averse to being cuddled and “hovered over,” thinking it was perhaps the product of having spent so much time in a crate when he was a pup.  I think it’s more likely that being in a home where he was constantly subject to attack by another male dog left him on guard and hesitant to relax for fear of being caught by surprise.  In any case, he’s shown no sign of that so far in our safe and secure environment.  By our observation, he’s outgoing, congenial, and neither shy nor tentative.  Additionally, he’s alert, engaged, interactive, and has wonderful eye contact.  He’s a strikingly handsome, perfectly-proportioned Dober.

And somewhere along the way, despite the challenges he has experienced, he has learned to sit, shake, down, place, heel, stay, and free on command.  And he particularly loves to chew on deer antlers, Kong chew toys, and Kong balls.  He also loves to fetch the ball.  And although he’s still learning how to catch it, he will bring the ball back and drop it at your feet.

Volunteer comments:

“Nyles is REALLY tall and REALLY handsome. He’s a young guy that likes to run and has energy (but not so much he is out of control.) If you want to see this guy you better do it quick because he won't be around long.  He is the dog that all Doberman lovers are looking for, with a friendly personality that welcomed me as a stranger the first time we met.”

“Here is one of the most strikingly handsome Dobies you will ever see!  He has a beautiful athletic build and a personality to go with it.  He loves to play, and for his size he is quite gentle.

”

There’s nothing more that needs to be said.  You know the drill – application approved, make appointment, visit/meet, take home.  Oh, and as one volunteer suggested, don’t delay; this fellow won’t be here long.
