This unusual and beautiful Dobergirl was picked up as a stray.  The owner was contacted and said she would pick her up from the shelter but never did.  It’s apparent she has been bred more than once in her young life, and for whatever reason the owner was apparently done with her.  I consider that to be much to the dog’s advantage.  (Trying to avoid a rant here.)

The all-black variation is a rare thing that unfortunately is being capitalized on by unscrupulous or ignorant owners who put greed ahead of breed.  Different demands dollars and more of them, without regard to a dog’s or the breed’s well being.

Thankfully this girl is as outstanding in her personality as in appearance.  She loves squeaky toys and Jolly Balls whether she’s just carrying them around or interacting with a human.  Despite the recent change in her circumstances (or perhaps because of it), she’s cheerful, engaged, and eager to interact and connect with humans.

Here’s what our volunteers have to say:
“Great dog!  Loves everyone and seemed to acclimate to new surroundings immediately.  Couldn't wait for me to enter the field to be with her, even though we had never met.  Once I was inside the fence with her, she acted like we were lifelong companions.  High energy but doesn't appear to be destructive energy.  Like many rescues, she needs to add a little weight.”

"This beautiful girl is my new favorite and helper.  She's full of energy and love.  In the field she showed no fear of the loud pressure washer.  in fact, I had to move her away since she wanted to be in front of the action and seemed to want to be soaking wet!  After that, I didn't see her, only to turn around and discover her patiently waiting directly behind me.  When the work was done, she loved chasing and bringing back the Jolly Ball."

“Jena is strikingly beautiful!  She nearly stopped me in my tracks the first time I saw her!  She’s incredibly sweet and loves to play.  She even knows a few basic commands and appears to be quite the little cuddle bug.  What a joy she is!”

"Jena is such a beautiful girl!  Despite her background, she's always happy, playful, and ready to give you all of her attention.  She doesn't have any leash manners yet, but she's smart and will learn as someone spends time working with her."

As you can see, she’s very well thought of by our volunteers, and the pictures certainly speak for themselves.  If you think your home may be the one for her, make an appointment to meet her once your application is approved, and come spend a little time with her.  More likely than not, you'll be going home together.
