Tiana and Briana came to us together, but Tiana has since been adopted.

They arrived from a shelter that had taken them in from a place where they had lived outside and were used exclusively for breeding. Both were heart worm positive upon arrival (treated and cured), but despite their pitiful, utilitarian former existence, they both are very sweet and affectionate Dobergirls.

When she first arrived, Briana seemed to feel the need to show other dogs she’s the boss by barking at them each time they passed her run. But during her time here, she has become more relaxed and less defensive toward other dogs.  She can be a teeny bit reserved when meeting strangers but overcomes it very quickly and is eager to be loved and made of. In my personal experience with her, she came right to me, was gently friendly, loved being made of, and was gentle when accepting treats.

Keep in mind when looking at her pictures, she was a brood bitch, being bred repeatedly and subsequently nursing several litters - a veritable baby factory for what we view as an unscrupulous breeder. Through no fault of her own (indeed, as a result of being a good mother), her belly sags and her teats hang down. For her, these are honorable indicators of what she has suffered and no fault of her own.

Comments from our volunteers:
"She seems to like being with people doesn't bark too much unless she's alone, she's more reserved with her play and attention seeking asking calmly not pushy. She can startle at unfamiliar things but seems to recover quickly."

"While out in an exercise field, I noted that she would meander about sniffing critters that had passed by and doing her independent thing. If I called her, she would come when called."

If you think this gentle lady may be a match for your home, make an appointment to meet her once your application is approved, and come spend a little time getting to know her. If you do, I’m confident you’ll be convinced of her companionability and desire to be a loving member of a family and a home where she gets to live inside and snuggle with her new family forevermore.
