 Starlite & Pete New Year's Day 2012

Star light, star bright,
The first star I see tonight;
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight.

Remember that old rhyme?  Surely (or at least hopefully) you learned this as a child when your mom or perhaps your teacher read nursery rhymes to you.

You may also remember this rhyme from that classic Walt Disney movie Pinocchio.  In the story of Pinocchio, a lonely wood carver carves a boy puppet so lifelike that he wishes it could become real.  With help from a fairy, Pinocchio comes alive as a puppet, and the fairy promises him that he can become a real boy if he proves himself to be brave, truthful, and unselfish.  Through a series of encounters, Pinocchio learns lessons of value and makes the right choices, dying in the end but having proved himself, he makes the final transition to actual human boy.  One need not be too creative to recognize similarities between this fairy tale and the story of the birth of Christ, which is being celebrated the world over at this time of year.

Our young Dobergirl Starlite came to us from having been found as a stray.  It is apparent that she had been used for breeding and was then perhaps discarded.  The thing that amazes me so often with a Dober like this who has probably had very little of loving attention, is that she has the most delightful, sweet, humble, appreciative disposition.  It’s almost as though, having had it so poorly previously, it has brought out the very best qualities with the result that she’s just about as nice a girl as a person could want to meet.

One of her most endearing features is the high-speed tail wag that she offers with the slightest encouragement.  My boy Gabe does this too, and I have to say that, while it may not sound like much in the hearing, the seeing of it is simply marvelous.  This lovely young lady is just plain eager to please, obedient, cheerful, and sweeter than your favorite Christmas treat.

If she could speak, it may well be that she would echo the nursery rhyme that bears her name.  If so, it’s easy to imagine what her wish would be.  I’m confident in saying that all she wants for Christmas is a forever home where she will be loved and nurtured and cuddled to her heart’s content.

Geppetto wished for his dream to come true, and with an assist from the blue fairy, it did.  This Christmas season, you have the opportunity to have a part in a little Christmas magic by taking this dear girl home with you.  And while she may not literally become human, it’s going to seem like it to you as she becomes your dearest companion in the new year.

So make an appointment to come by and meet her, sooner than later, I’m thinking.  Make your holiday season complete with this greatest canine gift of all.

Merry Christmas!
