JUNE
Here is another example of an absolutely lovely Dobergirl who was neglected and underfed in the extreme. You've read my rants in the past when it comes to this type of thing, and besides, I'm preaching to the choir, so I shall try to stick to the facts and leave the opinions regarding circumstances such as these unaddressed, as difficult as that is. :-)
At some point June apparently had been in a home that cared for her before going to the place that neglected her, because she not only has a really nice personality; she also shows that she has had some training. Despite the fact that she had been tied outside with no shelter, water, or food within reach, she knows to sit, down, and stay on command. She knows "Go to your bed," and she is house trained. These are not the indicators of a dog who has been neglected from birth. It's not unreasonable to imagine that her first, loving family fell on hard times and had to give her up, perhaps advertising her locally rather than going through a rescue home like DRT that does background and follow up on homes where it places Dobers so as to avoid a bad placement.
Despite her original family's best intentions, June ended up in a place that was harmful to her. As a result she was taken from that owner for not feeding her. Thankfully she ended up at Elijah's House where she is being loved and nurtured and well-fed once again as she awaits placement with a new and proper forever home. Amazingly, despite having been deprived of food to the point of extreme weight loss, she will let you take her food dish away while she is eating, she is always wagging her tail, and is full of affection.
June is a beautiful, happy-go-lucky girl who loves to play with toys and to get belly rubs. She of course loves treats, and she rides well in the car. She loves to be made of and is very easy going - just a grateful and happy girl who wants nothing better than to forget her recent, unhappy past and to find new happiness in a home with a loving, nurturing family. About the only thing that shows as needing work is that she pulls strongly on a leash, but I wouldn't be surprised if even that has a good start on bringing into line as the volunteers at DRT work with her over the next little while prior to her going to a new home.
So make an appointment to come and see her. Spend some time making of her and watching her play. Give her a treat or two and see if your heart doesn't ache for the joy of being with her. Consider giving her a home where she'll never be hungry again. If you do, you'll have saved a lovely dog and gained a love in the process. If June is the month for weddings, may this be a "marriage" made in heaven.
