A NEW YEAR'S IRRESOLUTION or MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR REDUX
"Always, no, sometimes, think it’s me But, you know, I know when it’s a dream I think, er, no, I mean, er, yes, but it’s all wrong That is, I think I disagree."
Sometimes life can be a bit perplexing. Dear Celebrate went home recently to what she thought was a new forever home only to come back to us because her new owner, who had thought that a laid back dog is what was wanted, decided that laid back was not what was wanted after all. Since she was gone for such a short time, her original profile follows.
CELEBRATE - DANCE TO THE MUSIC
Remember that old Three Dog Night song, Celebrate?
The lyrics tell of a woman sitting at home, all dressed up for the ball, waiting for a call that never comes. The lyrics call her to go out and celebrate regardless - to dance to the music. One implication is that if you make your own enjoyment, not only will you have fun, but your eyes may be opened to something positive that you had not anticipated.
Well here's a young lady aptly named Celebrate. She came to us just before New Year's eve, a time of celebration the world over. And indeed, she does have something to celebrate. You see she was found (along with another dog) running along the interstate during a snow storm. Had she not been picked up and taken to a shelter, she would likely have died from exposure had she been fortunate enough to avoid being struck by a vehicle. Thankfully a rescue angel stopped and picked up both dogs, taking them to a shelter, and Celebrate subsequently found her way to us.
Her appearance suggests that she has been bred numerous times, and how she came to be on the highway in a storm is unknown. But it's safe to say that her life is going to improve in the future as she finds a new home with a family that wants and loves her for her own value rather than what she can produce.
The good news is that despite her past circumstances, she is blessed with those Dober qualities that we know and love so much. She is very friendly and outgoing, she greets all as friends, she is smart, and she took to learning the doggy door without any resistance or hesitation. She's good on a leash, fastidious in her habits, and of course doesn't hesitate to leap up into a vehicle and ride happily along. She passed the vet's assessment with flying colors and welcomed everyone there with Dobie kisses. She even met the vet's children and had kisses for them, too. In short, regardless of what her past experience may have been, she's a loving, healthy, enthusiastic, happy, and grateful lady who is longing to celebrate with a new forever family.
And apparently she's not a barker. While Dobies are typically more reserved than the average dog when it comes to barking, Celebrate seems to be even more reserved than the norm. She doesn't even bark when there is someone at the door, although she could certainly be trained to without too much effort. (To my surprise, my current lover boy is the same way - the first in 35 years that doesn't bark with someone at the door. He's so perfect every other way that I haven't even trained him to do so, either. Of course, I may be biased.)
The fact that she was romping along the interstate in less than optimal conditions suggests that she is not one to sit at home and feel sorry for herself, but rather is able to make the best of the circumstances in which she finds herself. Her sunny disposition supports that impression.
What about you? Like the lady in the song, maybe you have a desire for something more than what you are currently experiencing. Maybe you hear the music and long to celebrate but are hesitating. What's holding you back? Get up, head out the door, come on by Elijah's House, and take home a wonderful Dober for the New Year. Soon you'll both be "dancing to the music."
Now that's a cause to celebrate.
